Susumu Mukai

His voice in the audio call was much graceful and calmer than I had imagined, and it almost made me restless. The voice is that of the artist and musician Zongamin or Susumu Mukai. Perhaps his intention has not appeared in the media much and is wrapped in a mysterious veil. His illustrations also contain mystery, that differs from mainstream sci-fi animation and paleoart, and incredible specificity coexists with fantasy to becomes a clue and expands the story of imagination. And music, in addition to his talent as a trackmaker, he in band sessions has a cool facial expression played with a lively groove. I felt the world that comes to life from the depths of his music and illustration, and I set out to explore through this interview. But he did not talk much, and as a result I am unsure whether my understanding, or the mystery surrounding him deepened. Either way, someone once described him as a “phonomenon”, and not many artists would fit that description so well.
