It all started with the artwork for Gonjasufi’s 1st album, A Sufi and a Killer. Despite its composition from extremely limited elements, the graphic was a superb expression of the image of this unparalleled music. Curious to find out what kind of person the creator responsible for this work was, we arrived at MRR— Michael Raymond Russell. But, his main occupation was music instead of graphic design. Moveover, he leads Drumetrics— a collective that creates tones alive with individuality through the linchpin of vintage drums and analog equipment. The video and sound originating from the collective, and the records which are akin to art-pieces were all mind-bogglingly dope; and as I learned more, the more I was hooked. I was also able to discover through this interview that his true self was a sincere and affectionate man who has carried through his pure passion for music to master it, in contrast to his sharp-eyed brilliant appearance.
At any rate, we hope that you may experience the same impact as we did.
