Indopepsychics

The production team Indopepsychics, consisting of DJ Kensei, nik, and D.O.I., who are active in Tokyo’s underground scene, was formed in 1995. During the mid-to-late 90s, they produced and remixed music for numerous hip-hop artists. Later, from the late 90s, they shifted their focus towards breakbeats and electronica, releasing various instrumental tracks and presenting a unique experimental sound. They played a leading role in Japan’s electronic instrumental scene before ceasing activities in 2002. Their releases include two albums: MECKISH, a compilation of remixes of hip-hop tracks and original breakbeat works from the late 90s to early 00s, and LEIWAND, a collection of original works produced in 2000-2001, focusing on electronica and dub. They also released four 12-inch records.

Added an unreleased track to the tracks of two albums “MECKISH” and “LEIWAND” announced in 2002, DJ Kensei is the best choice! In the remastered by Don “Daddy Kev” of Low End Theory which deals Flying Lotus masterpiece “Cosmogramma” released from WARP in 2010 and the work of Flying Lotus-sponsored label Brainfeeder, the supreme music group is fresh and exciting It was finished as an album! Recommended for WARP and Brainfeeder fans !!!

The dense cosmology of beats and baselines born in this country has easily exceeded the decade. DADDY KEV of LA’s LOW END THEORY, who also deals with mastering of FLYING LOTUS. The beat of INDOPEPSYCHICS, which was created ten years ago, changed his expression slightly with remastaring like his magic. Yes, I just changed a little bit of facial expression. Yet, the sound is even as easily connected to the base music that is now in progressive beat sound = post dubstep and beyond. No, of course, when born one after another, it is also a sound proving to the extent that it is stupid to apply it to a category that disappears leaving only that sound.

Text by Yusuke Kawamura

From the late 1990s to the early '00s, a variety of new flow of music was born, and it was time for change and change. The activities of the production team Indopepsychics of DJ Kensei, nik, D.O.I. were exactly in line with that era. In short, dense times, they worked on one after another and made amazing changes. As a result of that speed feeling, even a trend of a casual genre is left behind, as a result, the trajectory which entered from the hip hop to the electronic / acoustic world also symbolized the times. And, as they perceived the era after the change, they gently screamed away leaving two albums. Around ten years have passed since then, the sound source of Indopepsychics revives now. Eleven songs including unreleased tracks are selected, and mastering is done again with the ear of 2011 (It is Daddy Kev who is in charge of that). Indipepsychics’ hip - hop - like intuition is still sharp and will not miss the timing to re - discover the value of the sound source of the era that flew forward. This is equally fresh and exciting album, equally as well as listeners who know ten years ago and new listeners.
