Eike König / Hort

Eike König—in recent years he has been focusing his efforts into his own works as an artist. Though it also comes across through his artwork, the design work, in particular typography, from his studio Hort gives a simple yet tough impression at first glance. However, since there are rich stories and context beyond the written words, and perhaps because there is room left for the imagination of the viewer, unique thoughts spring forth and emotions linger. “Graphic design is mostly just a service that is used to drive capitalism”— For him to make such a cynical statement speaks of how deeply he understands the potential of graphic design from his earnest approach to the discipline. Here, in his responses to this interview, his unique import can be felt clearly from start to finish, and just like questions are being asked of us in return, we are presented with an opportunity to mull over fresh ideas.
