Please tell us about the inspiration and theme of
your latest collection and how you staged the show.
The latest collection was Dark Haze for Winter 2022
which I showcased at London Fashion Week at Colour Factory, which is a club in
Hackney Wick. And we had a live performance by a South London-based band called
Wu-lu, who do a lot of dubby, punky rock crossover music. That was a big part
of the theme for this season: we were looking a lot at Black rock and punk
groups—Bad Brains, right through to Slash from Guns N’ Roses. We wanted to
have this very strong idea of how musicians within the Black diaspora have not
just hip hop, reggae and jazz, but also have really made some amazing
contributions to rock and punk music. You know, for example, Jimi Hendrix, Sly
and the Family Stone. So yeah, it was very much that 2022 was a celebration
of that feeling, and we wanted to create the energy at the show, so they did a
live performance. Wu-lu were styled in the collection, and we shot the
collection with stylist Stephen Mann and photographer Piczo. We created a
really great collection which showcases all those references. We also worked
with illustrators Gaurab Thakali and Ollie Dove, who both created some really
great artwork around “Dark Haze” and the references for this collection.
