DJ Kensei2015
IS PAAR is a travelogue and beat collection by DJ
Kensei. During his journey through Thailand and Laos in the fall of 2015, DJ
Kensei sketched and documented the sounds, cultures, and atmospheres of
those lands—elements that are gradually being lost with the passage of time.
This is his first beat collection, capturing the real essence of those
places.
DJ Kensei’s journey followed a route through Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Khong in Thailand, then on to Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, and Vientiane in Laos, before returning to Nong Khai and Bangkok in Thailand. Along the way, he encountered the music of the Lao people, known as Morlam, in the Isaan region of northern Thailand and in Laos. Through interactions with locals, he acquired music on records, cassettes, and radio, often finding inexpensive audio sources at weekly markets. He also recorded conversations and ambient sounds during his travels, using limited equipment available on the road to sketch these collected sound fragments using Hip Hop and Dance Music techniques. Originally, these beats were created by DJ Kensei for casual listening during his travels, but they were later compiled and organized into a cohesive collection.
