The current solo exhibition Sobremesa at Palazzo Monti features a new series of deceptive paintings: Plats Bruts. As the artist, what do you want viewers to feel through this series? And how has it evolved or changed since your last show, Plats Bruts, at La FRESH Gallery in 2019?The Plats Bruts series, which I will probably continue to paint throughout the rest of my life, is a celebration of everyday life’s tiny banal moments as well as a journal of meals and shared experiences around the table. The Spanish term “sobremesa,” which is impossible to translate, refers to the “dolce far niente” or leisurely idleness at the table after a meal.
My latest iteration of Plats Bruts, Sobremesa, is on display at Palazzo Monti. In contrast to the first show, where all the pieces were life-like, I experimented with scale this time around and painted enormous dirty dishes, which gives the paintings a surreal touch.
