That’s almost too smooth to believe...
At the time it was honestly scary. Everything
was going a little too smoothly, which actually had the reverse effect of
making me rather cautious, like the moment I got comfortable, the rug was gonna get yanked out from
under me. Next I got a call from Mary Boone herself, who had seen one of my
pieces at KAWS’ house. Needless to say, I had to
tell people about that. When Bill from ATM Gallery heard that Mary Boone had
called me, he was like, “Oh my god!” He was the first guy who had really taken
care of me in the US, so I wanted to ask if he was cool with me doing a show at
Mary’s gallery even though it was also in New York, to which he said, “You have
to do it!”
