This
spring you released the EP Sad is Fashion / Trans Emois. What are some
of the new challenges and things you have tried here?
MaurizioOn this EP, Sad is Fashion had been released by Antinote in collaboration with
agnès b. It was logical for us to talk about fashion in another way and we were inspired by David Bowie lyrics. Trans Emois had been recorded in 2013 with Rodion. This is just a B-side answer to the actual trance revival.
UgoThe wordplay in Sad is
Fashion had been
playing in our mind a lot. Well, there’s no need to explain
it, actually. And Maurizio added some lyrics inspired by Bowie. The idea
was to make a glamourous slow tempo track. Trans
Emois was inspired by Enigma’s Sadeness (1990).
Though it may be different for each piece, what is your
approach when creating a sound piece? You are
both based in different cities, can you tell us about your production process?
MaurizioOur studio is located in Rome where I used to travel often. We do long studio
recording sessions and we use this material for creating new tracks.
Arrangements and post production are mostly done
in Brussels. Living in different
cities slows down the production
process but we don’t care— we are not in a competition.
UgoEach track has a different story in the way it is
produced. Some tracks are entirely recorded and mixed in our studio in Rome; some are entirely created
and finished in Brussels.
