Your clients include organizations and companies from all over the world, and I believe that each country and city has its regional characteristics and culture. What approach do you take to understand such things?
Our experience has taught us to be quite sensitive to these differences. Today, above all, we need to maintain an awareness of different perspectives and opinions. Also in relation to our work as designers, be it on topics such as cultural appropriation or gender issues. Through our projects with the House of World Cultures (HKW), we have become very careful in terms of working with images; an oil-smeared face is quickly interpreted as “blackfacing” in the communication of an event. Gender-equitable language is also a big topic in Germany right now. Most people in our environment are now fortunately aware of the disproportion, we can at least try to offer solutions.
