Hosoo Textile Collection 2022
The 2022 Collection presents new textiles that embody unparalleled beauty realized through an encounter between silk and hemp. Hemp, which has been used in Shinto rituals since ancient times, has 10,000 years of history. Its ancient memory, linked to Nishijin textile’s long, continuous heritage, travels through a distant time. The combination’s unique texture is woven into a three-dimensional expression produced by Hosoo’s complex structure.
When soaked in water and exposed to sunlight, hemp turns white over time. The color white has been considered pure since ancient times because it represents the “natural” state or the “state of anticipation,” where something is yet to be conducted. Hemp’s anticipatory white resonates with the principles of “More than Textile,” which continually explores the future, and marks a new step in the history of textiles. The emerging patterns represent both a time-transcending journey into the past and a journey into the universe unknown to humanity.
Rooted in the past, we aim for a new heritage that inherits the kimono culture. With such passion, we named the new collection “Heritage Nova.” The collection embodies the spirit of Hosoo’s never-ending innovation.
