To be frank, the dance floor when the bpm reaches breakneck speeds isn’t for me. It feels closer to being rushed onward by the music rather than vibing with it, and it’s hardly enjoyable. That being said, I cannot deny the recent trend that the party is easily brought to life when the tempo is high, and because of that, DJs who want an obvious reaction from the crowd might depend on pushing the tempo up, but more often than not the groove is left behind.
Front de Cadeaux’s music, on the other hand, is overflowing with groove. Whether it’s a nameless squat or a top-tier rave, their attitude in the DJ booth is unwavering, and they do not relentlessly agitate the floor. Playing 45 rpm records slowed down to 33 rpm, they develop a sublime groove with unparalleled skill subverting the short-sighted trend of ultra-fast bpm. Furthermore, in the duo’s maneuvering during their back-to-back performances they construct an unpredictable scene, and throw open the doors to a world of ecstasy permitted to music alone. When you see the floor swaying along to their DJing and people’s expressions of pleasure, it is quite clear that their statement “the body follows the groove, not the bpm” is natural law.
