With the event just around the corner, we take a closer look at the immersive rave PARAMOUNT 2026 through the words of OtOdashi SOUND SYSTEM, the team behind its sound.

Taking place once again on May 23–24 in the mountains of Minakami, Gunma, PARAMOUNT is an outdoor party where the sound system, the dance floor, and the surrounding environment merge into a single entity—allowing sound to enter directly into each person’s perception.

Since the very beginning of PARAMOUNT, OtOdashi SOUND SYSTEM has designed the event around its sound system, shaping the overall spatial experience. Hidai, a core member of the team, describes sound as having two distinct aspects: “technical accuracy” and “sensory pleasure.”

“Whether the original sound is faithfully reproduced in the output—clarity, range, spatial definition, and an extremely low level of noise, where sound emerges from silence. That’s what I consider a sound that accurately conveys the creator’s intent. At the same time, elements such as rich overtones, dynamics, warmth, and a certain sense of moisture or texture can’t be measured by numerical specifications. They are what give you goosebumps, make you lose track of time, and move your ears, your mind, and your emotions…… When these aspects connect with individual sensibility, that’s when an immersive experience is ideally realized.”

To play sound outdoors is to constantly engage with unpredictable elements. Terrain, temperature, and humidity all directly affect how sound travels. Yet for OtOdashi, these are not “uncontrollable factors,” but rather challenges to be worked with—something to be navigated in order to approach an optimal state. By finding the best positioning and orientation for each location, and adjusting the sound in response to the environment, they build the conditions that support the unique experience of PARAMOUNT.

This approach to sound is not unrelated to this year’s lineup. From the precise layering and structural complexity of Space Drum Meditation, to the organic textures of oma totem’s analog-driven sound, the driving and expansive sets of AMORAL, and SUNA’s deeply immersive sets that draw the floor inward……. How these different sonic textures will manifest within this space remains to be experienced.

When accurately reproduced sound meets a resonance that touches the senses, people lose track of time and sink deeper into the sound itself—until their sensibility is laid bare. It is a kind of experience that can only truly be felt on site.
