Interview (2025)
Could you tell us about your origin and upbringing, and early exposure to music or sound? There was always a lot of music in my home growing up. My mom is a piano teacher and I have these early memories of laying in bed and listening to the piano tuner tuning our piano in the room below my bedroom—all of the micro-tonalities and overtones resonating up through the floor.
How did your journey as a musician and artist begin? Both me and my brother, Adam, played instruments from the time we were young. I started on piano and then picked up the trumpet and then guitar; playing in the school concert band and later the jazz band. In middle school, Adam started on drums and I started on guitar—that was really the beginning of something. We spent a lot of time jamming in the basement together. That was also the moment my social scene changed and my life started to be organized around making music.
