Cousin

How do you decide which artists and works to release through it?
Although I’m open to working with others, I usually like to have a bit of a personal connection with the artists I work with. The whole process is a pretty intimate thing, so most of the artists on Moonshoe tend to be good friends already or became so in the process of working together.

Let’s dive into your works. In 2020, you released Message From Q under the name Cousin via your label. As you pursued your unique sound, was there anything specific that you felt you were finally able to express with this project?
I first released music in collaboration with Freda— he is an incredible drummer. Because of this, I definitely let him take the reins on the rhythmic side of things on our Freda and Jackson project. I think the solo stuff as Cousin was the first time I could focus on my own inner rhythms.
