I feel new approaches and interpretations with each release of your albums. When you start working on an album, do you have a theme, direction, or abstract image, or new issues? How do you get ideas that start your creations?I have a lot of inspiration—Berlin is a lively city; I like to go to concerts, galleries, and I listen to a lot of music. So sometimes I’m like enlightened and think, yes, that’s it. But it takes time and then another project comes in between and so it sometimes takes several years to finish a new album and occasionally the direction changes during that time.
Otherwise, when I work on or for a particular occasion, it goes rather quickly because I have dates and deadlines. For example Isolation, initially composed in 2012 as part of a sound installation at a former STASI prison. Or Sinn+Form, which was made in 2015 as a result of a studio residency at EMS Stockholm. Or sounds I composed in 2016 for the light installation white_circle for raster-noton at ZKM in Karlsruhe. The album abtasten_halten of 2019 was again created from recordings I composed for the sound installation raster.labor.
