Your lyrics also
present an equally unique take on the world. At what point in the process do
you start writing them?
After the track is
finished. Every so often I’ll
find myself able to write lyrics at the same as the music, but basically it’s music first, words later. I’ll kind of hum
over the base audio and then write the lyrics following that. My hope is that,
when the melodies and meaning of the lyrics are synched up, we’ll have something cool on our hands. As of now I’m not so sure I can right lyrics “just like that” without any music.
Do you make all your album art yourself?
I have since the
release of 100 Years Passed (100-nengo) in 2012. I did try looking for
other people to commission here and there, but couldn’t find anyone that really had what
I wanted. Someone suggested, “Well then why not do it yourself,” and so that’s what I did. I make the art after all the tracks are put together,
so most of the time I’ve already got my concept decided
and don’t have to waste a lot of mental energy while I
work. It’s my own art, but it also kind of feels
similar to doing a project for someone else.
