ISM Hexadome
29 March to 22 April 2018
Immersive Sound and 360° Visual Exhibition
The ISM Hexadome is a new format and at the same time a completely new tool. Nine performances and installations have been especially conceived for the project by international sound and visual artists. Within the ISM Hexadome, each work opens a door into a world crafted in sonic and visual detail, demonstrating the power of spatialisation for sound.
Developed by the Institute for Sound & Music in collaboration with Pfadfinderei and ZKM | Center for Art and Media, the ISM Hexadome is an immersive exhibition fusing art with technology, unlike any previous experience within a museum context. Throughout 2018–2019, the ISM Hexadome exhibition is scheduled to travel from Berlin to museums and festivals worldwide.
With installations by
Brian Eno, Tarik Barri and Thom Yorke
as well as live performances and installations by Tarik Barri, Holly Herndon and Mathew Dryhurst, Frank Bretschneider and Pierce Warnecke, Lara Sarkissian and Jemma Woolmore, Ben Frost and MFO, Peter Van Hoesen and Heleen Blanken, CAO and Michael Tan, Pfadfinderei and René Löwe.

Listening to the recordings on headphones recreates the detailed sense of spatialisation and movement of the ISM Hexadome’s immersive 52-channel sound system that these works were exclusively composed for.
The album also includes artwork prints of 10 still images excerpted from the installations created by visual artists in collaboration with the sound artist. The prints by Holly Herndon & Mathew Dryhurst and Tarik Barri are bonus visual material.
