Slipping Control (2014) combines sound poetry, modular synthesis, live performance, and video—a complex interplay of media and reinterpretation. What initially sparked this approach?
Slipping Controlwas a really transitional project for me. I had started to make pieces that were ending up in both music and fine art contexts and working across these worlds created a really fun creative situation where I could just break open the way I was thinking about producing work. The most lasting result of this for me was starting to work with text. The textual composition of Slipping Control is what led to the video and text drawings I would make and eventually to The Beat My Head Hit, Vocal Trio and my new record, Oblivion Seekers. For me it has been as significant a change creatively as moving from acoustic instruments to electronics.
