So you make the music first, then the lyrics, then
the art, and recently you’ve even made a few of the videos.
Do you see all of these as being parts of the same thing?
The methods of
expression may be different, but yeah, it does essentially feel like I’m making all this as parts of the
same thing. Sometimes I’ll start thinking about too
much while I’m writing the songs, but in general when
it comes to the artwork and later stuff that I’ll be
doing after all the music is finished, I just let myself go with the flow, I
guess. Like since I already have a cohesive concept, I’m
able to spend more time actually working and less time brainstorming.
So an album’s concept is the starting
point for everything, it seems. How do you come up with these concepts?
I don’t really know. Basically I just
start by feeling my way through things. Somewhere along the way I’ll slowly begin to see a sense of direction, and then all of the sudden, I’ll have an image of
the whole album and then the concept is clear. That’s the
case a lot of the time.
And what about the music videos you’ve
made?
SUTEKI NA YOKAN is one I made with
my director friend (Katsuki) Kuroyanagi, who I met back in college. And the
video for Flag (alternative version), I think.
