In the same way as creating the book, this was a fresh start, curating this rejected work meant we let go of it, we couldn’t go back to it and use it for another project. Essentially it stopped us from being lazy and constantly creating new ideas and concepts for each project, so FIN? really worked in that sense and benefited the creativity of the studio. We released it as a digital zine each month which was free to download and we used the term P.I.Y—which was a play on D.I.Y—and meant PRINT IT YOURSELF as each zine was print ready. Over the issues we did have people send us prints in their rooms or even used an artwork for various things, as we gave free reign to what you could do with it. Once it was released it was free for public use. We also released a printed version every six months. The project ran for three years but as the studio workload started to grow we had to let it go. We have spoken about revisiting it, maybe in a larger publication, but there are no solid plans yet.
SOOT is completely separate to this and has nothing to do with us. We are just really good friends with the developers and have been part of the testing stage—and also creating there social content—but SOOT is absolutely fucking mind blowing. It’s still being developed but it will be the world’s first visual filing system and we were lucky enough to have them create a playground using over 5000 images of our work that have never seen the light of day, reference images, and sketches. It’s crazy and exciting what these guys are doing—I highly recommend checking it out. Our playground is linked on our website.
