Ben Vida is a New York based artist, composer, and improviser whose practice spans sound, performance, and writing. For over two decades, he has been a key figure in the international experimental music community, releasing works on labels such as PAN, Kranky and Shelter Press, and presenting projects at institutions including ina/GRM, Dia:Beacon, the Guggenheim, and the Kitchen. His latest release, Oblivion Seekers (Shelter Press), marks a return to text-driven, rhythmically intricate vocal composition, and features vocalists Nina Dante, Felicia Atkinson, and Christina Vantzou.
Alongside his solo work, Vida is an active collaborator. He is a founding member of the group Play Time, with saxophonist Will Epstein and drummer Booker Stardrum, developing music in a fluid, organic way through live performance. Since relocating from New York City to Shady, NY, he has built a close-knit creative community, working regularly with artists such as Lea Bertucci, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, and Tyondai Braxton. Vida’s current focus lies in exploring new modes of musical communication and expanding the possibilities of listening through both collaborative and individual projects.
