Hideki Inaba

Inner Resources: Graphic DesignNigh Magazine
There are several independent and avant-garde publications that only the most curious of aficionados would uncover among the many creative culture magazines that emerged between the late 1990s and early 2000s, that era just after the dawn of desktop publishing when graphic design melded seamlessly with nearly every scene under the sun. Hideki Inaba was the mind behind the art direction of much of this cutting-edge media. The uninhibited concepts and elaborate playfulness that permeated his editorial design lightly cast aside all existing notions of the field while giving diehard readers a vivid jolt. However, it becomes clear that all of this was to be but a prelude to something greater once one sees the art series Inaba went on to produce later. These pieces that confront and delve into the concept of creation in its purest form from the perspective of one whose origins lay in design are like singular considerations of his bared sense given form. And yet, not even all these fancy words can easily describe his handiwork—all the more reason to go straight to the source and experience his story and artwork with a fresh, unbiased perspective.
