Koshiro Kihara

Profile

Born in Hyogo prefecture in 1997. Finished graduate studies at Onomichi City University Graduate School of Art in 2022. Presently works in a shared atelier in Hyogo with his twin brother, the artist Kenshiro Kihara. He is currently pursuing new framework for painting through attempting to create worlds where opposites such as “Concrete/Abstract”, “Reality/Fiction”, “Fleeting/Eternal”, “Natural/Artificial” intersect complexly while the barriers between them are made vague in coexistence. His process of creation starts with creating a motif in clay, paint or other media, photographing it, and then using that photograph as the basis for the oil painting. In his solo exhibition Scene in January this year, he presented new works with transparency using cellophane as a motif.

He has taken part in group exhibitions such as Nijigen-ha Exhibition (2022), 3331ART FAIR (2022), and duo exhibitions with his brother Kenshiro, Infinity Mirror (2021), Stranger(2022), and solo exhibitions Lemon-Colored Dream (2023), Ugoite, Tsukamenai [Moving, Elusive](2023), and Scene  (2024).
