Nigh Pop-Up Opening Party

with Sound and Conversation

A reception of sound and conversation unfolds on the opening night of Nigh’s first Pop-Up, with BOW and Soft Sun behind the decks.

To celebrate the launch of our first-ever Pop-Up, we’ll be hosting an opening reception on the evening of May 9, the first day of the event.

It will be the first time we’ve been able to meet, in person, our readers and kindred spirits who’ve been following Nigh from afar. We’re genuinely looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Nigh, your creative work, and whatever else you’ve been thinking about lately.

As a small gesture for those who stop by, we’ll be offering our original zine and a new sticker. mood_tokyo will quietly accent the space with their floral styling, and on the night of the reception, gift a single flower to each guest.

You’ll also be able to experience Nigh State items in person―feeling their textures and presence for yourself.

Until now, Nigh Magazine has existed as a world beyond touch―words, artworks, and music woven together through a screen. But we believe there are moments when, in a physical space where people cross paths, these expressions and words come to resonate more deeply. And that each of those intersections, when gently linked, may grow into a kind of community―for counterculture, and for those attuned to it. This reception is a small beginning toward that vision.

Sound for the evening will be shaped by two DJs who’ve repeatedly resonated with us through Build the Ambience Friday (BTAF), the secret party series hosted by Nigh: Soft Sun and BOW.

Scenes from Soft Sun at BTAF

Having moved through countless dance floors and been part of BTAF since its early days―both organizing and opening the nights―Soft Sun embodies one of the many forms of dance floor that BTAF aspires to create. For him, music is a conduit that opens the inner self to others, and leads beyond the borders of everyday life. Unbound by genre, and guided by past musical experiences and attuned to his current state of awareness, he strings together sounds with sensitivity. His sets carry a soft light, yet hold just enough tension to subtly ripple through the room.

Scenes from BOW (ZUNDOKO DISCO) at BTAF

The other DJ, BOW, was also first encountered at BTAF. It only took that one time to be drawn in. Since then, his sound has found its place at various moments where Nigh’s sensibility and his own have overlapped, including his appearances as part of ZUNDOKO DISCO. With a vast vinyl archive behind him, he crafts sets that pivot around techno but traverse a wide palette―from chilled textures to abstract downbeats. Between each sound, he leaves room to breathe―allowing tension to build slowly, shifting the gravity of the floor, and subtly saturating the space.

Even in a setting like a reception, where sound isn’t center stage, both DJs will tune the mood with their own quiet approaches―gently stirring the air, guiding the atmosphere, and resonating beneath the surface. Through the presence of music, the space opens up, softens the senses, and invites a kind of nonverbal exchange. In that way, it echoes the experience of reading Nigh. We hope the afterglow of it all lingers in your memory of the night.

The reception is open to all. If you feel like it, come stop by.
