Profile

Takahiro Miyashita was born in 1973 in Tokyo. He did not attend a fashion school, instead learning how to make apparel on his own. He went independent after working as a buyer and similar roles at Nepenthes, eventually founding Kooks Co., Ltd in November 1996 and unveiling the brand “NUMBER (N)INE”. The label joined the Tokyo Collection in the 2001 season AW before moving to Paris Fashion Week in the 2004 AW season. On February 20, 2009, at the end of the 2009 AW season, Miyashita stepped away from NUMBER (N)INE and announced the label’s dissolution. July 2010 would restart his career as a designer with an exhibition for a 2010 winter collection as “TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist.” In September 2011 he would open the first TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist. store in Aoyama under the name “grocerystore” (now “TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist. Aoyama”). January 2018 saw the first runway show of said brand in Tokyo, and in the same month Miyashita would also be selected as the main guest designer of the 93rd Pitti Immagine Uomo, holding a joint 2018 AW collection show with Undercover in Florence. In January 2019, Miyashita returned to the official schedule of Paris Fashion Week for the first time since 2009 with a 2019 AW collection runway show.
